Button Frame and Start Tab

This window is starting point for Design Heat Balance calculation.

Inputs and selections at this window is connected with the inputs and selections of other windows that have the same, so that, if User changes this window, then other windows are also changed automatically.   

For example, User selects "4 Flows" in "Condensing Flow" combo box, then the selection of the combo box with the same name in "Last Stage" tab changes automatically.    The inputs and selections of the "Feed Water Heater" frame is connected with those of "FW Heaters" tab.   The "Turbine Driven BFP" frame is connected with that of "Aux(1)" tab and the "Smart Run" is connected with Smart Run form that pops up when clicking the yellow "Smart Run" button in the Button Frame.

  

Short Cut Icon Box ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Design combo box

To show and select the list of Design Heat Balances that User is now working.

ES_Rankine save all the heat balances that User has worked in a file including Operation Heat Balances.

 

Oper.  combo box

To show and select the list of Operation Heat Balances that User is now working.

Operation Heat Balance shows how the turbine cycle works if the cycle is designed according to the Design Heat Balance, which the Operation Heat Balance is based on.   Heater Out of Operation heat balance is a kind of Operation Heat Balance.   A Design Heat Balance may have several Operation Heat Balances.

 

Button Frame -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DESIGN button

To open DESIGN window.   When DESIGN window opens, the back ground color of DESIGN button changes to green, and the other buttons for Design Heat Balance are shown below.

 

OPERATION button

To open OPERATION window.   When OPERATION window opens, the back ground color of OPERATION button changes to green, and the other buttons for Operation Heat Balance are shown below.   

 

Run button

To execute calculation of Design Heat Balance.   A progress bar is shown at the bottom of screen during calculation.

 

Graphic Output... button

To show a graphic output screen of Design Heat Balance.

A Print button is provided in the graphic output screen, by which the graphic output can be printed out.

Graphic output screens are provided each for DESIGN and OPERATION separately, so that User can compare the results of both at sight.

 

Text Output... button

To show a text output screen of Design Heat Balance.

Text output uses Note Pad software that is provided with Windows.   Note Pad execution file should be located in the file path of "C:\Windows\notepad.exe".

Text output is saved and overwritten automatically in the file name of "ES_Rankine_e.txt" in the directory where ES_Rankine execution file is located.   Therefore, if User wants to save the text output, please save the text output file as another name by using file save function of Note Pad software.

 

Text output can be filed as Excel file of Microsoft Office software, by selecting a so-named option in the Text Output Option form which is shown by clicking the menu of "Option -> Text Output...".

The Excel file is saved and overwritten automatically in the file name of "ES_Rankine_e_xls" in the directory where ES_Rankine execution file is located.   Therefore, if User wants to save the text output, please save the text output Excel file as another name by using file save function of Excel software.

Please note that the Excel file format saved by ES_Rankine may be different from a regular Excel file.   Therefore, after opening the file in Excel, please save it again as regular Excel format.

 

Smart Run button

To show Smart Run form.

Smart Run form provides a quick and easy method to prepare a Design Heat Balance from built-in industry standard design heat balances prepared by ENGSOFT.

Additionally, it provides a function to find out optimum final feed water temperature as well as optimum reheat pressure out of the industry standard design heat balances.   It gives the User a overview that the industry standard heat balances are optimum or not, and, if not, what optimum is.

Smart Run may uses also User-prepared design heat balances as the base heat balance for optimum study.    For details, please refer to the relevant page of Smart Run.

 

Add to List, Update List, Delete List buttons

Add to List to add the lately-executed design heat balance to the "Design" combo box list.

Update List to update the design heat balance selected now in the "Design" combo box with the lately-executed calculation results.

Delete List to delete the design heat balance selected now in the "Design" combo box.

 

Listing and file saving are independent in ES_Rankine.   Therefore, User has to save the file after listing Design(or Operation) heat balances in order to keep the data permanently.

Please refer to the relevant page of listing and file saving for details.

 

+ File Save check box

To save the list data into a file simultaneously when User clicks "Add to List", "Update List" or "Delete List".

Although this function has disadvantage of no chance to recover if there is a mistake in listing, recommended is the use of this function to secure the saving of data User made.

Title text box

To input the title of Design Heat Balance.  The maximum length of the title is 50 characters.

 

Cycle Type combo box

To select Cycle Type to calculate, as below.

Non-Reheat Turbine Cycle

 -> Software calculates turbine efficiencies.

-

Reheat Turbine Cycle

 -> Software calculates turbine efficiencies.

-

Non-Reheat Turbine Cycle (Efficiency by User)

 -> User provides turbine efficiencies

-

Reheat Turbine Cycle (Efficiency by User)

 -> User provides turbine efficiencies

 

Condensing Flows combo box

To select number of condensing flow(= exhaust flows) of reheat condensing turbine or LP turbine.

There are four selections of Single Flow, 2 Flows, 4 Flows and 6 Flows.

If Single Flow is selected, reheat turbine is assumed as single casing turbine, not separated into IP turbine and LP turbine.

Condensing Flows should be selected to have optimum annulus velocity(200 m/s ~ 300 m/s) at the last stage blade.   Before calculation, it is difficult to know the Condensing Flows having optimum annulus velocity.   ES_Rankine has a function to select automatically the Condensing Flows having optimum annulus velocity by automatic re-run after calculation.    When ES_Rankine pops up a warning message after calculation asking re-run for finding optimum annulus velocity, just click "OK" button to have ES_Rankine found optimum Condensing Flows as well as optimum last stage design from the reference Last Stage Design list.

 

FW Heater Quantity combo box

To select quantity of feed water heaters.   The maximum quantity is 10.

 

BFP Heater Nr. text box

To input the feed water heater number, under which BFP(Boiler Feed Water Pump) is located.   The BFP heater should be Contact type.

Only one Contact type feed water heater should exist in a heat balance diagram for correct calculation.

Calculation of more than one Contact type feed water heater is possible, but the results may not be correct.

 

Heater Nr. from Cold Reheat text box

To input the feed water heater number, of which heating steam is supplied from cold reheat line.   If no such heater exists, please input "0".

 

Heater Nr. from IP Tbn. Exhaust text box

To input the feed water heater number, of which heating steam is supplied from IP turbine exhaust, i.e. LP crossover line.

ES_Rankine assumes that IP and LP turbine exist independently when condenser flow is more than 2 flows.   If condenser flow is single flow, there is no LP turbine and no LP crossover line.

 If no such heater exists, please input "0".

 

"P Tbn Ext" Input check box

To select whether design feed water outlet temperatures of heaters are defined by feed water outlet temperature itself or turbine bleed pressure.

If this check box is checked, User has to define the feed water outlet temperatures by turbine bleed pressure.

 

Turbine Driven BFP check box

To select whether BFP(Boiler Feed Water Pump) is driven by steam turbine or electric motor.

If this box is checked, BFP is driven by steam turbine.   If not, it is driven by electric motor.

BFP driving turbine is interpreted as discharging its exhaust steam to main condenser.

 

Driving Steam Source combo box

To select the steam source of BFP driving steam turbine.

Selection list includes main steam line, cold reheat line and LP crossover line as well as all the bleeding lines for feed water heaters.

 

Smart Run frame

To use Smart Run function for easy starting of Design Heat Balance.

It is very easy and convenient to start from industry standard heat balances for development of design heat balances, instead of starting from nothing.

This function is doing Smart Run by one click, which do same as popping up Smart Run form by clicking "Smart Run" button and then "Run" and "Add to List".

 

ENGSOFT List combo box

To list and select a industry standard heat balance to start a Design Heat Balance.

 

Output text box

To input the generator output of Smart Run.

The industry standard ENGSOFT heat balances have their own output specified.   User may change the specified output by inputting here the output he wants.

For example, if User wants to prepare 1000 MW design heat balance with 9 feed water heaters, it may be better to select "850 MW Class Reheat Advanced Ultra-Supercritical" with 9 feed water heaters instead of "1000 MW Class Reheat Ultra-Supercritical" with 8 feed water heaters, and then input "1000000" in this Output text box.
